Dear KSDPG Families,
The Kenyon Total Performance Invitational is just around the corner, beginning next Thursday, November 21, and we need your help to ensure its success. Volunteer timers are essential for keeping each event on track.
Sign-Up Information
If you’re planning to attend, we encourage you to sign up. This is a special chance to indulge your nostalgia and get back on the deck, with a stopwatch in your hand and water in your shoes (consider wearing crocs or slides).
Click here to view the available slots and session start times. Feel free to sign up for multiple sessions if you’d like.
Session Times
Each day includes two sessions with the following start times:
Thursday: 11:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.
Friday: 10:30 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.
Saturday: 10:00 a.m. and 5:30 p.m.
Orientation
Please arrive 30 minutes before your scheduled session and check in at the Wet Classroom (directions below). This allows time for a briefing to go over timing details and ensures everyone is ready to start on time.
To access the deck walk past the information booth into the back hallway, turn right in back hallway to the second door on the right - marked Special Events. Walk down this hallway and out onto the pool deck. Once on the deck go to the second room on the right - the wet classroom. Timer meeting will be in the classroom.
During the timers meeting, timers will be given their materials (stopwatch, clipboard, pencil) as well as instructions by the meet starter and Head Timer. If you are a first-timer, tell Amy Eisenbeis or one of the family coordinators and we will make sure you are paired with a more experienced timer.
Embrace the Uncertainty
Kenyon Track & Field always sends timers and, for a number of reasons, those timers will be given priority. So, you might sign up for a session only to find out you are not needed…because more than the expected number of track and field athletes showed up. Sometimes the opposite happens, and you will see us canvassing families in the stands looking for emergency stand-ins. It is a dynamic process.
That said, we don’t let uncertainty stop us. At last year’s invitational, some families did multiple emergency shifts. When we were overstaffed, others graciously bowed out. In the end, the family timing-slot coverage rate was 100% and the timer no-show rate among families was 0%. Everyone who signed-up arrived on time, or sent a proxy in their place when they needed to miss a session, or called in sick well in advance so we had time to find a sub. That is our goal again this year.
With all those caveats, this is one of the coolest meets on the calendar, and nothing beats being on deck during these races.
If something comes up and you’re unable to make it to your scheduled shift, please text 202-255-3490 as soon as possible so we can find a replacement.
